Fearless: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain etc. whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
From the beginning of time God had never intended for us to be fearful. When man was created he didn’t step back and say to himself “Hmm… I think a lil dash of fear would top it all off” . FEAR was never an ingredient in our makeup. We were created in HIS image an I am pretty sure we have a FEARLESS God. I mean let’s take a look at the life of Jesus for a moment.
Now we all know someone in our life that is just plain FEARLESS. Meaning that they would pretty much do anything anytime anywhere. Sometimes for just pure entertainment. They don’t even care who is watching or who talks about them. FEARLESS. Jesus walked on this earth as a man just like you and I and did some crazy things. Put mud balls in a dudes eye to be healed from blindness, turned water into wine, talked to women, hung out with sinners, touched lepers and list goes on and on and on. People back then must have thought this Jesus dude was FEARLESS. And he was.
Lets look at Matthew 4.(click the link to read scripture) – Basically Jesus was led into the wilderness by the spirit of God. While he was there he was tempted by the devil 3 times. This is when Jesus showed some audacious FEARLESS-ness. 3 times he was tempted. First was to turn some stones into bread so he can feed his hungry lil belly. (He was fasting). Second he was tempted to jump off a cliff so angels can come swoop down and catch him like the downy bear in some soft warm towels straight out the dryer. Third was to kneel down to the devil so that he can obtain all that he saw..pretty much the city and stuff which he already pretty much had hotels on like monopoly. 3 times he was tempted and 3 times he overcame. I believe it was because he was FEARLESS.
3 Ways to become FEARLESS
1. Say no to the world and Yes to God (verse 3-4)
- Jesus used the word of God against the enemy. Dive into the Word will make you FEARLESS in FAITH
2. Trust in Gods promises not the worlds (verse 5-7)
- God has a HUGE future for you. (Jer 29:11) – Never settle for what the world has to offer.
3. Hold your ground (verse 8-11)
- Finally the third time Jesus had enough. NEVER GIVE IN to the enemy. Hold your ground and God will ALWAYS take care of you
Interesting enough I see in the book of Matthew that immediately after those 40 days in the wilderness being tested and tempted by the enemy Jesus proved himself FEARLESS. And then….drumroll please……The Ministry of Jesus began. It was then he began to gather his disciples and walk out the purpose in which he was here for.
My challenge is to become FEARLESS in your faith. FEARLESS in your confidence and KNOW that you are CALLED, A SON, A DAUGHTER of the MOST HIGH.
Nobody is going to do what you do unless you take them with you. Just like Jesus did his disciples who ultimately became FEARLESS.
Here is Psalm 27 to finish it off.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.
